I thought after the tea party, things would slow down... they did for a day or two!!!! But, I am thankful we have so many fun things going on. I know when the kids are all in high school, I am going to miss these days when projects are so consuming that the house goes by the wayside. I'm going to want a messy house again with kids' toys and projects everywhere - right?!!! I do know that is true and I want to appreciate all of this!
So, since my last post, we had skate night for Campus School. I took the big kids! That was really fun... they skated a little in the middle, but still hugged the wall a lot...
The next night, Tim took the big kids to a performance at the Orpheum. There were puppeteers who enacted three of Eric Carles' books. We love Eric Carle, so this was a real treat!
Saturday, we had the Heart Reunion. This was such a fun day! The hospital invited all the cardiac patients who have been in the hospital the last year and some of the frequent flyer patients, too! We helped a little with goody bags and decorations. It was great to see all the doctors and nurses. But, it was also fun for me to see all the kids and parents that I've been mentoring over the past year. The babies have grown so much, and the parents look so well rested - that was pretty neat.
Here are some of the WONDERFUL CVICU nurses who put the party together....
Yum - cake!!!
A bluegrass band played - and yes, that is Madeline's Dr. Becker with the denim shirt!
This is nurse Alicia. She was Dr. Joel's nurse. Now, she is the surgery nurse, so we don't get to call her like we used to! She is amazing, though. She just had brain surgery -- she will be back to work this Monday! Wow!
Fun to dance~
All my loves!
Check out Susanna tugging on that ear. Yes, she ended up at the doctor on Sunday with a double ear infection. OK, she has tubes in her ears and adenoids removed; this is the THIRD round of antibiotics in a row the last 5 weeks.... we may be headed back to the ENT if she doesn't kick it this time!
This is nurse Sarah. She is one of the few nurses left who actually took care of Madeline when she was in the ICU. She had Madeline after her very first heart cath and again after her open heart surgery. We LOVE Sarah!! It's hard to believe we are approaching the 6th anniversary....
Dr. Waller who did Madeline's cath in November. Such a kind and genuinely caring doctor!
Dr. Becker - multitalented!!
Madeline had a huge project for school due yesterday. Memphis City Schools has something called a "Think Show!" All the kids do a project and presentation. At Campus, they divided the grade levels into different decades. First grade got 2000-2010. Madeline was assigned the "media" category. So, she had to choose a book or movie that was published/made in her decade. She chose Honey....Honey...Lion by Jan Brett. It was published the year she was born, and we actually saw the author promoting the book when she was a baby! We had pictures of Jan Brett doing an illustration demonstration of one of the characters! We made a costume - she wanted to be Honeyguide - a bird who leads the honey badger to honey. It was pretty fun - lots of work, but pretty fun! I don't know how many feathers they glued on these posterboard wings..... She also drew characters from the book, a picture of the setting and wrote out the plot for a presentation board. Lots of coloring and glueing! We all learned a lot about the characters and Botswana, Africa, where the story took place - wish we could learn all things so thoroughly!
The same day the project was due, Madeline had Jump Rope for Heart for the American Heart Association. Of course, we wanted to support this, too! So, off to school the little guys and I went to cheer on the kids!
That afternoon was so pretty, Eli sat out on the deck with his car wash!
And, the day before, Susanna took off all her clothes! So funny!
Next week is Spring Break for Madeline - we will definitely slow a bit -- looking forward to our Florida trip!!!!!
